After her son eloped with a girl, a woman and her two daughters killed themselves, fearing that they would be arrested and jailed.
Afraid of police raids and arrest, a woman and her two daughters killed themselves by consuming poison in Uttar Pradesh’s Baghpat last week. The woman’s son had eloped with a girl, following which the family was allegedly being harassed and facing police pressure.
The incident was reported from Bachhod village in Baghpat district on May 25, when the police arrived to raid the home of Anuradha after her son Prince eloped with the girl he was in a romantic relationship with. Police said the woman’s family had filed a complaint, on the basis of which they conducted the raid at the man’s home.
In fear that they would be arrested and jailed if the accused is not found, Anuradha and her two daughters, Preeti and Swati, consumed poison in a bid to end their lives.
The women were rushed to the Community Health Centre at Chhaprauli by the police. Due to their serious condition, they were later shifted to a hospital in Meerut. However, all three died at different times over the next two days.
District Magistrate Raj Kamal said the matter is under investigation. The case has been handed over to the crime branch.

The move follows internal challenges faced by both leaders. Ramadoss, founder of the Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK), has been at odds with his son Anbumani Ramadoss over control of the party. Despite being the founder, he has been unable to legally reclaim the party symbol or leadership post. Sasikala, a close aide of former Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa, has also struggled to regain influence within the AIADMK.
