Former India women's cricket captain Jhulan Goswami and ex-footballer Mehtab Hossain face hearings over name discrepancies under the Special Intensive Revision process.
Former India women’s cricket captain Jhulan Goswami has been summoned for a hearing under the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process along with her two siblings over a discrepancy in their father’s name.
The issue arose as his name appears as Nishith Ranjan Goswami in some documents and Nishith Goswami in others. The hearing was scheduled on January 27. Goswami did not have to appear in person and resolved the matter from her home. However, her two siblings had to attend the hearing at a local school.
In a similar development, former footballer Mehtab Hossain has also received a summons for an SIR hearing. He received the notice on January 28 and has been asked to appear at Abdus Shukur High School in Mallikpur, South 24 Parganas, next Sunday.
Hossain said the notice was issued due to a mismatch between his mother’s name and his name in the list.
Earlier, cricketers Mohammed Shami and Laxmi Ratan Shukla had also received similar summons under the SIR process.

As per the Bill, those involved in unlawful conversions on the pretext of marriage will be punished with imprisonment of seven years and shall also be liable for a fine of Rs 1 lakh. Violations in respect of a minor, a person of unsound mind, a woman or a person belonging to the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe will be punished with imprisonment of seven years and a fine of Rs 5 lakh.

India on Monday said it has not held bilateral talks with the United States on deploying naval vessels to secure merchant shipping in the Strait of Hormuz. The clarification came after US President Donald Trump urged countries to send warships to keep the strategic waterway open amid tensions with Iran.
