ENG vs IND, 2nd ODI: Virat Kohli scored 16 runs with three fours in the Lord's match before left-arm pacer David Willey got rid of him.
Former batter Aakash Chopra reckoned that Virat Kohli was starting to look good in the second ODI at Lord’s before getting out to a loose stroke. The 33-year-old Kohli took around eight balls to get his eyes in, after which he smashed left-armer Reece Topley for three fours.
However, after scoring 16 runs with three fours, the right-hander perished to another left-armer, David Willey. Kohli poked at a delivery outside the off-stump only to find an outside edge and give a simple catch to keeper Jos Buttler.
"A beautiful straight drive, an impeccable cover-driveand a copybook on-drive. The three Kohli drives were vintage. Lured us into believing that the master is back in form. But not to be. The outside edgefishingagain. And the wait continues," Chopra was quoted as saying on the Koo App.
Kohli’s wicket was the fourth that India lost with their score at 31 while chasing 247. In the end, the Men in Blue lost the match by 100 runs after being bowled out for 146 in 38.5 overs.
Despite his poor run of form, Kohli found backing from Indian skipper Rohit Sharma. The national skipper reckoned that it was only a matter of an innings or two for the Delhi-born Kohli to regain his lost touch.
"He [Kohli] has played so many matches. He is playing for so many years. He is such a great batsman, so he does not need reassurance," Rohit said in the post-match press conference.
