ENG vs SA: South Africa and England are set to lock horns in three ODIs and as many T20I matches, starting Tuesday, July 19.
The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB), on Friday, July 15, named England’s squads for the upcoming ODI and T20I series against South Africa. Fast bowler Matthew Potts, who has played four Tests thus far in his career, earned his maiden ODI call-up. In 10 List A matches, the speedster has picked up 16 wickets with one four-wicket haul to his name.
Leg-spinner Adil Rashid, who didn’t take part in the T20I and ODI series against Rohit Sharma’s India, found his way into both squads. The ECB had granted him permission to skip the series against the Men in Blue to make the Hajj pilgrimage to Mecca.
Jonny Bairstow was rested from the T20I series against India but will take part in the 20-over matches against the Proteas.
Ben Stokes hasn’t been included in either of the squads. The all-rounder won’t also take part in the second edition of the Hundred.
Reece Topley, who picked up a six-wicket haul in the Lord’s ODI on Thursday, was included in both the ODI and T20I squads.
The ODI series is scheduled to get underway on Tuesday, July 19 with the opening game in Chester-le-Street. The three-match T20I series is set to be played from Wednesday, July 27.
