The Karnataka police move recognises the demanding nature of the service and highlights the importance of allowing personnel to celebrate significant personal occasions.
The Karnataka Police has decided to grant its officers and staff casual leave on their birthdays and wedding anniversaries, a move aimed at improving work-life balance and boosting morale within the force, an official circular said.
The decision follows the circular issued on Thursday by Karnataka Director General and Inspector General of Police (DG & IGP) MA Saleem.
The circular recognises the demanding nature of the police service and highlights the importance of allowing personnel to celebrate significant personal occasions, so that they could "recharge emotionally" by spending quality time with family.
According to the directive, police officers and staff work under challenging conditions to ensure public safety and effective law enforcement, often leaving little time for family and personal commitments.
Granting leave on special days such as birthdays and wedding anniversaries is seen as a step towards addressing emotional well-being and reducing stress.
The circular notes that taking leave on these occasions enables personnel to "recharge emotionally, spend quality time with family and maintain a balance between duty and personal life".

India on Monday said it has not held bilateral talks with the United States on deploying naval vessels to secure merchant shipping in the Strait of Hormuz. The clarification came after US President Donald Trump urged countries to send warships to keep the strategic waterway open amid tensions with Iran.
