Tech billionaire Elon Musk has announced a new project that involves two of his companies, xAI and Tesla. Musk labels this project "Macrohard" or "Digital Optimus" with the aim of emulating a software company solely through AI. Here are the details.
Elon Musk has announced a joint venture between two of his companies, Tesla and xAI, with the aim of disrupting the software market solely via AI tools. Musk labelled this project “Macrohard” – a take on Microsoft – or “Digital Optimus” – referring to the Tesla Optimus robot.
In a post on X, the tech billionaire announced his plans, stating that this project is part of “Tesla’s investment agreement with xAI.” In January, Tesla committed around $2 billion to acquire shares in xAI.
Do note that SpaceX has acquired xAI in an all-stock deal that valued SpaceX at $1 trillion and xAI at $250 billion.
According to Musk, the project will be capable of doing everything a software company does. He said, “In principle, it is capable of emulating the function of entire companies.”
Elon Musk explained that Macrohard will integrate xAI's Large Language Model (LLM) Grok as a high-level “navigator” with a Tesla-developed AI agent capable of processing real-time computer screen activities and user input.
In essence, the project will have two parts. Musk added, “You can think of it as Digital Optimus AI being System 1 (instinctive part of the mind) and Grok being System 2. (thinking part of the mind).” Elon Musk explained how Macrohard will work on X.
