The Enforcement Directorate (ED) investigating the multi-crore coal scam has issued summons to two top IPS officers from Bengal to appear before it in Delhi on September 26 and 28.
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Wednesday summoned two Indian Police Service (IPS) officers from West Bengal in connection with the coal smuggling case.
Additional director general of police (ADG) of West Bengal Special Task Force (STF), Gyanwant Singh, and Akash Magharia, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) of South Division of Kolkata Police, have been asked to appear before the ED, sources said.
IPS Gyanwant Singh has been asked to appear before the probe agency on September 26, while IPS Akash Magharia will have to appear on September 28.
The CBI and the Enforcement Directorate are also investigating alleged illegal excavation, transportation, and sale of coal from some districts of West Bengal.
Both officers were posted in the coal belt area in the past. Now the ED wants to know whether they were aware of the coal smuggling or not.
Several top politicians in West Bengal linked to the Trinamool Congress are also under the scanner of the ED in this case.
