ECB charges Yorkshire cricket after investigation into Azeem Rafiq’s claims of racism

Yorkshire County Cricket Club and quite a few people have been charged after a thorough investigation into the racism claims made by Azeem Rafiq, a former player of the county. The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB), on Wednesday, June 15, put forth the development without divulging the names of the people in question.
Back in 2021, Rafiq, also a former skipper of the England under-19 captain, alleged that he had been a victim of institutional racism at Yorkshire.
The scandal rang alarm bells in English cricket and led to plenty of changes in coaching and administrative personnel at the club.
"The charges arise from alleged breaches of ECB Directive 3.3 (conduct which is improper or which may be prejudicial to the interests of cricket or which may bring the ECB, the game of cricket or any cricketer into disrepute) and the ECB Anti-Discrimination Code," the governing body was quoted as saying in a statement.
"In matters of this nature, our normal practice is not to identify individuals charged at this stage. This decision is taken on a case-by-case basis."
An independent panel of the Cricket Discipline Commission, the body that takes care of disciplinary matters in the English domestic circuit, will hear the cases in a few days.
Back in November 2021, Rafiq testified before a British parliamentary committee. He welcomed the England board’s announcement and said he was hoping for better progress in the investigation.
