Earlier there was fear in UP, now only development: PM Modi slams past governments

The Prime Minister also took a sharp jibe at the Congress and the Samajwadi Party for allegedly spewing venomous politics in the state as well as in the country.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi took a sharp jibe at the opposition after inaugurating the Meerut metro and the Namo Bharat metro corridor. Hailing the NDA government's developmental agendas, the PM said that earlier Uttar Pradesh was under the grip of fear due to rapid criminalisation. However, the NDA government changed the scenario with massive developmental work.
"Under the previous governments, there was an atmosphere of fear and dread here. Now, on the one hand, law and order have improved, and on the other, people have also been provided with a convenient and safe mode of travel," Modi said in his speech. Taking a further jibe at the opposition and hailing the metro projects, he further noted, "When Congress and the Samajwadi Party were in power in Delhi, none of this was even possible because, back then, infrastructure projects would simply vanish into scams. Most of the technology related to the Metro and such had to be imported from abroad. We have not only stopped the scams but also moved the country forward on the path of self-reliance."
On Sunday, the Prime Minister, alongside the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister, Yogi Adityanath, flagged off the Meerut Metro as well as the entire Namo Bharat Metro corridor. After the inauguration, the PM undertook a ride and interacted with several employees of the railways and with the specially-abled children. He mentioned that the people he spoke to expressed that they had not gone through an overwhelming experience like the metro ride.
"A short while ago, I travelled on the Meerut Metro, during which I spoke with many young people from my school and college. Everyone said the same thing—that they had never imagined such splendid days, and they were reminiscing about those old times when, as soon as evening fell, a deathly silence would descend over the entire route," Modi mentioned.
This is a developing story. It will be updated.
