
DYFI cadre attacked by 30 SDPI, IUML workers in Kerala for tearing party’s poster; 29 booked, 5 in custody

Around 30 SDPI and IUML workers in Kerala’s Kozhikode assaulted Jishnu Raj, a DYFI worker, for allegedly tearing up an SDPI poster. Kerala Police have registered a case against 29 people in connection with the incident and have taken five of them into custody.
Kerala Police registered a case against 29 Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) and Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) workers for assaulting a Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) worker. Police have also taken five SDPI workers into custody.
Around 30 IUML and SDPI workers surrounded and attacked a DYFI worker, identified as Jishnu Raj, in Kerala’s Kozhikode on Wednesday night. He was attacked following allegations that an SDPI poster was torn by him.
Jishnu Raj is currently under treatment at Kozhikode Medical College. His eyes and face were badly injured.
He was also made to confess in a video that the flex was destroyed by him following instructions by Communist Party of India (Marxist) CPI(M) leaders.
Following the incident, DYFI workers took out a protest march on the streets of Kozhikode. They raised slogans questioning the incident and warned the SDPI to stay away from them.
Five SDPI workers have been taken into custody by the police. Police also registered a case against Jishnu on charges of possessing weapons and trying to instigate violence.

As per the Bill, those involved in unlawful conversions on the pretext of marriage will be punished with imprisonment of seven years and shall also be liable for a fine of Rs 1 lakh. Violations in respect of a minor, a person of unsound mind, a woman or a person belonging to the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe will be punished with imprisonment of seven years and a fine of Rs 5 lakh.
