Doranda treasury case: Court to pronounce quantum of sentence for Lalu Yadav, others today

The RJD supremo, who has been sentenced to 14 years in prison and slapped with a total fine of Rs 60 lakh, is on bail in four other cases related to Dumka, Deoghar and Chaibasa treasuries after conviction.
The special CBI court will announce the quantum of sentence for the convicts, including RJD supremo Lalu Yadav, in the Rs 139.5 crore Doranda treasury embezzlement case on Monday.

Lalu was declared guilty on February 15. Of the 99 accused in the case, 24 were acquitted, while three-year jail terms were pronounced for 46 accused. The fate of the remaining accused will be decided on Monday.
Lalu was found guilty under Sections 120B, 420, 409, 467, 468, 471, 477A of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and 13 (1), 13 (2)C of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988. Under these, there is a provision of sentence for a minimum of one year and a maximum of seven years of imprisonment.
Soon after the conviction, the ailing 73-year-old politician was shifted to Birsa Munda Central Jail in Ranchi and then he was admitted to the state-run Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS). Lalu's counsel Deboshri Mondal said that they will seek relief after they get the judgement copy and the quantum of sentence is pronounced.
