Flash floods in Oman killed two Kerala natives, while another woman from the state remains missing after their vehicle was swept away in Al Batinah.
Flash floods in Oman have claimed the lives of two people from Kerala, while another woman remains missing, prompting senior Congress leader VD Satheesan to seek Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s urgent intervention.
The missing woman has been identified as Ramla, who also hails from Trithala. According to reports, the victims were travelling in a vehicle when it was caught in a sudden flash flood in Oman’s Al Batinah Governorate.
Two people have been recovered by search and rescue teams in Barka in South Al Batinah Governorate, while efforts are still underway to locate another missing individual, as reported by the Gulf News.
In his letter, he also requested all possible assistance to ensure the safety of those affected and to provide support to the families of the victims.
In a letter addressed to the Prime Minister on Sunday, Satheesan expressed deep concern over the tragic incident that occurred on Saturday. The floods resulted in the deaths of Yusuf and Shamla, both natives of Trithala in Kerala.
Satheesan urged the Centre to take immediate steps to coordinate with Omani authorities to expedite and strengthen the ongoing search and rescue operations, especially in view of continuing heavy rains and the persistent flood risk in the region.
