
Don't want to help BJP: Congress decides not to field candidate for Bhabanipur bypoll

Saying that the party does not want to help the BJP, Congress on Tuesday announced that it has decided not to field any candidate for the upcoming Bhabanipur bypoll.
The Congress party has decided not to field any candidate for the upcoming Bhabanipur bypoll, party's West Bengal chief Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury said on Tuesday. Announcing party's decision, Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury said, "Yesterday, we discussed the matter with state leaders. A section of which felt we must contest at Bhabanipur while another section opposed it. As Pradesh Congress chief, it was my duty to let the party high command know what the state committee feels".
A prominent seer, Pranavananda Swamiji, alleged that mutts backing Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar to take over the top post were denied any allocation in the state budget presented by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. He reiterated his support for Shivakumar to take over as the chief minister.

According to the police, 19-year-old Sachin Dharmendrabhai Chaudhary, who works as a labourer, had borrowed the money before expressing his inability to repay it immediately, police said. He was allegedly threatened with his life over the delay in repayment. Fearing for his life, Sachin immediately alerted the police.
