The Texas-born actor, who also appeared on "Orange Is the New Black" and "Daredevil," had been diagnosed with cancer last winter.
Actor Devin Harjes, best known for roles on “Boardwalk Empire” and “Manifest” among other TV series, died on May 27, after being hospitalized at New York’s Mount Sinai West Hospital. He was 41.
Harjes’s death was announced Sunday in an obituary posted to his official website. The actor’s representative, David Williams, confirmed to CBS News and other outlets that Harjes had been diagnosed with cancer last winter, but did not provide specifics.
“He was an artist of great conviction who never gave less than one hundred percent to any role he undertook,” Williams said in a statement, per USA Today. “As a person, he was generous, kind, understanding and devoted to his family and friends, a great horseback rider and had a magic way with all animals. He was at home in the backcountry of the Rocky Mountains, the plains of west Texas or the middle of Hell’s Kitchen. He will be missed.”
A native of Lubbock, Texas, Harjes began his career as a stage actor in New York, appearing in off-Broadway productions as well as student films. His big break came in 2011 with a two-episode arc on the HBO period drama “Boardwalk Empire,” in which he portrayed legendary boxer Jack Dempsey.
He went on to appear on “Blue Bloods,” “Orange Is the New Black” and “Daredevil,” among other series and films. His last credited screen appearance was the NBC supernatural drama “Manifest,” in which he portrayed the character of Pete Baylor.
