The Pentagon used a special Hellfire missile that packs no explosives to strike ISIS-K in Afghanistan on Saturday in retaliation for a suicide bomb at the Kabul airport last week.
At around 6 pm local time, on 26th August, an explosion ripped through Abbey Gate at the Hamid Karzai International Airport in Kabul. The suicide attack killed more than 180 people and left many more injured. Among the dead were 13 US soldiers. Hours later, President Joe Biden of the United States addressed his nation saying, “We will not forgive. We will not forget. We will hunt you down and make you pay”. He told the American public that “We will respond with force and precision at our time, at the place we choose and the moment of our choosing.” On August 27th, the US Military Central Command issued a statement saying, “US military forces conducted an over-the-horizon counterterrorism operation today against an ISIS-K planner. The unmanned airstrike occurred in the Nangarhar Province of Afghanistan. Initial indications are that we killed the target. We know of no civilian casualties.”
Oil and gas refineries and hubs are up in flames not just in the Middle East, but also in Russia and the US. Crude oil prices have surged over $100 a barrel. With the energy infrastructure in the Middle East likely to take years to be rebuilt, the world could be set for the biggest oil disruption in history.

Speaking at the White House, Trump said the United States was in contact with "the right people" in Iran and suggested that Tehran was eager to reach an agreement to halt hostilities. "We're in negotiations right now," he told reporters, without offering further details on the scope or format of the talks.
