The demolition of Kapico resorts located in Kerala’s Alappuzha began on Thursday, September 15. Two small structures out of the 52 cottages have been demolished. According to officials, the entire resort will be razed within five to six months.
The resort is being demolished since it was built violating the Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) rules and in violation of the Coastal Management Act. District Collector, VR Krishan Tajaya led the demolition process.
The district administration plans to dispose of the debris from the demolition in an environmentally friendly manner within six months.
Earlier, the resort was informed that the demolition procedure would begin by this week. The demolition process will be done in a step-by-step manner.
The entire demolition would take five to six months since the officials are making sure that the debris does not fall into the lake that surrounds the resort. There are no residents near the demolition zone and the entire island is covered by the illegal resort.
The resort, which was built by Kuwait-based Capico Group and Muthoottu Mini Group owner, Roy M Mathew, lies on the banks of Vembanatukayl at Alappuzha Nediyamthuruth. The company was registered under the name Kapiko Kerala Resort and the resort was constructed.
