Delhi: Cab driver arrested for stealing jewellery worth over Rs 10 lakh from passenger

A cab driver has been arrested by the Delhi Police for stealing a passenger's bag containing jewellery worth over Rs 10 lakh. Police have also seized the cab used in the crime.

Delhi Police has arrested a cab driver for stealing a trolley bag containing jewellery worth over Rs 10 lakh from a passenger. Police have also seized the cab used in the crime.

It was on May 13, when a woman, resident of Vasant Kunj, approached police, informing them that on the day of the incident, she had booked a cab from Vasant Kunj to Asola village. It was during departure, that she left her bag (containing jewellery, property and medical documents, 3-4 sarees) inside the cab.

Realising the same, she then called the cab driver, who clearly denied the presence of any such bag inside his cab. Subsequently, the woman filed a complaint against the cab driver and an investigation was taken up into the matter.

DCP South Benita Mary Jaiker said “After the thorough scanning of CCTV footage, address of the cab driver was obtained from the concerned agency. The team then reached the said address and booked the accused, Saqib Jameel, for questioning.

Also, while analysing the CCTV footage, police had traced the red trolley bag belonging to the passenger inside the accused's cab.

Though Saqib initially denied the accusations, he later confessed to his crime, following which he was arrested. Police also recovered all the passenger's belongings from Gurugram.
