Delhi: 36 hours on, firefighting operation at Bhalswa landfill continues

The fire tenders struggled to douse the fire at Bhalswa landfill site for the third straight day. Fire officials said that it would take at least another day to put the fire out completely.
The massive blaze at Bhalswa landfill site continues to burn in north Delhi for the third straight day on Thursday and fire tenders are still at the spot trying to douse the flames. A massive fire broke out at the landfill site on Tuesday evening, reported news agency ANI.
Delhi Fire Services officials said that smoke was reported around 5 pm which later spread into a massive fire. The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained.
With the fire burning for 36 hours straight, locals living near the Bhalswa landfill in Delhi have been reporting breathing problems.
A local living near Bhalswa landfill site said, "The solution to combat these kinds of situations is to remove the whole dump yard from here.""People are not able to live here due to bad air& water. Several requests were made to remove dump yard but nothing happened,"a local pic.twitter.com/LinfGXQoMY
