Court defers Shimjitha's bail plea in Deepak death case to February 6, amid ongoing police investigation and custody application.
The Kozhikode sessions court on Wednesday deferred its order on the bail plea moved by Shimjitha Musthafa, the accused in the case of abetment to the unnatural death of Govindapuram native U. Deepak, to Friday (February 6, 2025).
Judge Bindu Kumari decided to reserve the order in the wake of the custody application moved by the police at the Kunnamangalam Judicial First Class Magistrate Court.
Earlier, the Kunnamagalam court had rejected her bail application approving the contention of the prosecution that it could adversely affect the ongoing probe. Also, the prosecution pointed out that the investigation was going through a crucial stage.
On Thursday, the Kunnamangalam court is set to consider the custody application moved by the investigation team. If granted, the police said, she would be taken to Kannur for collecting evidence from the bus in which both of them travelled.
It was on January 18 that Deepak was found dead at his house near Govindapuram in Kozhikode city.
According to police sources, the video alleging sexual harassment was shot by the suspect during a bus journey in Kannur district on January 16.
