Dalit girl found dead in UP’s Aligarh, family alleges rape

The family of a minor Dalit girl, who was found dead in a field in the Aligarh district on Sunday, has alleged that she was raped.

A minor Dalit girl was found dead in Uttar Pradesh’s Aligarh district on Sunday night. According to the police, the 16-year-old girl had left her home in the Akrabad area of Aligarh district at around 11 AM on Sunday to collect fodder for the animals. When she did not return till late evening, the villagers started looking for her. They found her dead body in a nearby field. On Monday, the police said that during the preliminary investigation it appears that the girl was strangled to death. However, her family has alleged that the girl was a victim of sexual violence, apart from murder. The police said that the sexual violence could only be confirmed after a post-mortem. The death of the minor girl enraged the villagers who pelted stones at the police party that had come to take the girl’s body for post-mortem.
