
Dairy Minister reviews cooperative milk societies in Nagapattinam

Tamil Nadu Dairy Minister reviews state dairy schemes, provides loans to farmers, and distributes incentives and loans to members.
Tamil Nadu Dairy Development Minister T. Mano Thangaraj chaired a review meeting on Wednesday at the Nagapattinam Collectorate with secretaries of cooperative milk producer societies and officials from related departments.
The meeting, jointly organised by the Dairy Department and Thanjavur District Cooperative Milk Producers’ Union, reviewed progress on state-run dairy schemes. Mr. Mano Thangaraj said under the current government loans exceeding ₹1,000 crore have been provided to farmers across Tamil Nadu.
In Nagapattinam district, 46 milk producer societies with 780 members procure around 3,600 litres of milk daily. Of this, 3,186 litres are sent to Thanjavur Aavin and 422 litres sold locally. From December 18, 2023, incentive payments totaling ₹28.94 lakh have been distributed, and ₹6.48 lakh directly credited to members’ accounts in November 2024.
Since April 2024, ₹123.7 lakh has been issued as loans to 219 members for dairy cows, and ₹63 lakh under Kisan Credit Card (KCC) to 282 members for cattle maintenance.
Mr. Mano Thangaraj said the National Milk Registry Scheme is underway to register 4,400 Umbalacheri breed cows. Under the Rural Development Scheme, 11 societies were given milk procurement tools, and 34 more will receive quality testing kits, recognition awards, and registration certificates.
He also distributed ₹20 lakh worth of dairy loans to 35 beneficiaries and honoured the top-selling society staff from Velippalayam.
District Collector P. Akash, MP V. Selvaraj, Fisheries Corporation Chairman N. Gauthaman, and Kilvelur MLA V.P. Nagai Mali were present.
