
Cyclone Asani: Andhra Pradesh issues red warning, braces for storm

As cyclone Asani laid about 60 km south-southeast of Andhra Pradesh's Machilipatnam on Wednesday morning, a red warning was issued for the coast.
The severe cyclonic storm ‘Asani’ laid about 60 km south-southeast of Machilipatnam (Andhra Pradesh) at 02.30 am on May 11. On the basis of the IMD bulletin, a red warning was issued for the Andhra coast.
The cyclonic system is very likely to move nearly northwestwards for the next few hours and reach close to the Andhra Pradesh coast.
Cyclone Asani weakened into a Cyclonic Storm and lay centered about 60 km south-southeast of Machilipatnam (Andhra Pradesh), 180 km south-southwest of Kakinada (Andhra Pradesh), 310 km southwest of Visakhapatnam (Andhra Pradesh) at 02.30 am on May 11.
SCS ASANI lay centered at 2330 hrs IST, near lat 15.5°N & long 81.6°E, about 90 km south-southeast of Machilipatnam. It is very likely to move nearly northwestwards and reach Westcentral Bay of Bengal close to Andhra Pradesh coast by 11th morning. pic.twitter.com/oOoBVLZXyP

According to the IMD, the weather system is likely to recurve slowly north-northeastwards, move along Yanam, Kakinada and Visakhapatnam coasts and emerge into westcentral and adjoining Northwest Bay of Bengal off North Andhra Pradesh and Odisha coasts.
