The Tamil Nadu Government should crush armed thugs attacking innocents for no reasons as these anti-social elements are operating with the objective of tarnishing the government’s image, Tamil Nadu Congress Committee president K. Selvaperunthagai has said.
When an armed gang unleashed unprovoked attack on the people standing in front of a roadside teashop at Perumpathu Indra Colony near Nanguneri on Monday night, a physically challenged man, John of Indra Colony, and a brick kiln worker, Trinath Katta of Odisha, were murdered while seven others sustained grievous multiple cut injuries.
Speaking to reporters after meeting Kannagi, the wife of John at her house on Friday, Mr. Selvaperunthagai said the government should give ex-gratia, employment and free house to the physically challenged woman and mother of two girls. “The TNCC will give ₹5 lakh to the bereaved family,” he said.
The TNCC would also take care of the children’s educational expenses and party MP C. Robert Bruce, Nanguneri MLA Ruby R. Manoharan and office-bearers in Tirunelveli would monitor it, he said.
When asked if the TNCC would financially help the family of Trinath Katta, Mr. Selvaperunthagai said he would contact the Congress leaders in Odisha to find out the living conditions of his family members and help them appropriately.
On the police action taken after the double murder, he said the TNCC was satisfied with the steps taken so far.
