Crores in daughter’s flats, but Arpita Mukherjee’s mother lives in run-down old house

Despite making headlines after the Enforcement Directorate recovered a large sum of money from her luxury home, Arpita Mukherjee's mother lives in a run-down house devoid of luxury and comfort.
Even as the Enforcement Directorate (ED) raided luxury homes belonging to Arpita Mukherjee, her ancestral home in North 24 Parganas stayed out of the headlines.
"She was here last week. She never spends too long here. She mostly stayed at her home," said Arpita's mother, Minati Mukherjee, as she recalled her daughter's visit to her ancestral house in Kolkata's Belghoria.
Minati Mukherjee stays alone in this dilapidated house, which was built over 50 years ago.
Arpita Mukherjee, who was arrested by the ED in a recruitment scam, used to visit her ailing mother and spend 2-3 hours with her, local residents said, adding, "she had arranged for two helpers to assist Minati with her daily chores."
India Today spoke to Minati Mukherjee days after her daughter's arrest.
"Had she followed my instructions, I would have gotten her married. Her father was in government service, so she could have gotten that job. But she had no interest. She left this house long ago," Minati said, adding that Arpita wanted to work in movies and television shows.
Reacting to the current ED probe involving Arpita, her mother said, "I heard about it on the news. I don't know anything about money. These are legal issues. I will try to ask her about it."
