Coronavirus | India records 1.26 lakh fresh cases and 2,599 deaths

India recorded 1,26,528 new COVID-19 cases and 2,599 new deaths till 9.30 p.m. on Thursday. The country has so far reported a total of 2,85,67,607 cases and 3,40,613 deaths. Tamil Nadu reported 24,405 new infections, followed by Kerala (18,853) and Karnataka (18,324). Maharashtra recorded 643 new casualties on the day, followed by Karnataka (514) and Tamil Nadu (460). Maharashtra’s fatalities include backlog deaths which were missed in the previous reports. The figures do not include cases and deaths from Punjab, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Tripura, Arunachal Pradesh and Ladakh. The restoration and redevelopment of the decades-old Calve College Government school, a landmark that occupies a prominent place in the city’s history is nearing completion. The Puducherry Smart City Development Limited (PSCDL), which has taken up the restoration, has planned to complete the work by the first week of July. The Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage (INTACH) is the architectural consultant for PSCDL, while Puducherry Technological University (PTU) is the structural consultant. The work commenced in August 2021 and costs ₹4.75 crore.
