Congress stages protest after vandalisation attempt on Nehru statue in MP's Satna

Vandals attempted to deface Jawaharlal Nehru's statue in Madhya Pradesh's Satna district, prompting the Congress to stage a protest.
A group of anti-social elements tried to vandalise Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru's statue in Madhya Pradesh's Satna district on Tuesday. The vandals tried to destroy the statue by damaging its lower portion and hitting it with sticks and iron rods.
A video that went viral on social media showed nearly a dozen miscreants, some of whom were causing damage to the statue's upper portion while others were raining blows on the lower portion. It also showed one of them trying to break Nehru's statue with a hammer.

After verifying the viral video, the police have registered an FIR against unidentified persons.
"A case has been registered against unidentified persons. They have been booked for damaging Nehru’s statue and creating social disturbances in society. Strict action will be taken against them," said a senior police official in Satna district.
Meanwhile, former Madhya Pradesh chief minister and state Congress president Kamal Nath condemned the incident on Twitter.
