Congress has appointed Ashok Gehlot and Bhupesh Baghel as senior observers for the upcoming elections in Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh respectively.
Congress chief Sonia Gandhi on Tuesday appointed Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot as senior observer for Gujarat Assembly elections. Gehlot's Chhattisgarh counterpart Bhupesh Baghel has been appointed as senior observer for the Himachal Pradesh Assembly polls.
Milind deora and Sachin pilot have been given responsibility of Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh polls as observers.
Assembly elections in these two states are likely to be held later this year. The Congress is looking to wrest power from the BJP in both states.
In the last round of Assembly elections, the party lost Punjab to AAP and gave a dismal performance in Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Goa and Manipur, with the BJP retaining power in the four states.
