Concerns grow as a DMK functionary allegedly resides at a Coimbatore sub-health centre, raising questions about government property use.
Concerns have been raised after a video posted on social media allegedly shows a DMK functionary residing at the sub-health centre in V.N.R. Nagar in Coimbatore city.
The sub-health centre, located in Ward 36 of the Coimbatore Corporation, has Kanitha posted as an urban health nurse. The video alleges that part of the facility has been converted into a residence, raising questions about a political functionary staying in a government property. Kanitha’s husband, Shyam Sundar, is a member of the DMK.
Sources said the building functioned as a sub-health centre since 2019, and a new urban primary health centre has been constructed nearby. Ms. Kanitha has been posted at the centre and has reportedly been staying there with her husband and their two children for more than eight months.
A senior Coimbatore Corporation official said urban health nurses are permitted to stay at the sub-centres where they are posted, along with their families. He added that there are 14 such sub-centres, while the remaining area is used for storing medicines and supplies for the nearby UPHC.
The official said the nurse has been assigned to carry out field visits, including house visits for health checks and administering vaccinations, and that her family’s stay at the sub-health centre does not violate any rules.
