Coimbatore emerges as a hotspot for GCCs in Tamil Nadu

Coimbatore is emerging as a leading hub for Global Capability Centres in Tamil Nadu, driven by strong educational infrastructure and investment.

Coimbatore, Madurai and Tiruchi are hotspots in Tamil Nadu for Global Capability Centres (GCCs), said ArunBalaji A, partner, Forensics and Integrity Services, Ernst & Young LLP, in Coimbatore on Friday.

Speaking at the National Management Day event organised by the Coimbatore Management Association, he said Coimbatore has the education infrastructure that makes it an attractive destination. Businesses need access to capital to scale up and 2025 saw more than 100 IPOs that got ₹1,67,000 crore. In the smaller cities, SME IPO is the buzzword. About ₹5 lakh crore came in through private equity in 2024 and in the first 11 months of 2025, ₹4.4 lakh crore came as private equity. Foreign venture capital funds were also brining in funds. About ₹30,000 crore came to Tamil Nadu through PE and Venture Capital funds last year, he said.

Geopolitics determines how businesses can scale up and do governance. On the technology front, misinformation is growing and data leaks are a major threat. So, businesses need to invest in security. In a survey covering 1,000 companies, 87 % were found investing in technology that was related to automation, ERP, processes, etc. Less than 10 % spent on governance. While capital can go into accquiring new tools, money should be spent on protecting the existing systems too, he said.

“We need governance to capitalise on opportunities,” he said.

Nithyanandan Devaraaj, president of the Coimbatore Management Association, said the Association gives away 10 awards annually recognising people for their contribution to business excellence.
