New flyover at Goripalayam comes with hassle-free traffic arrangement

After more-than-two-year wait, the flyover at Goripalayam junction will be commissioned on Saturday. As of now, the main arm of the new flyover, named after freedom fighter Netaji Subash Chandra Bose, will help to decongest vehicular movement from Tamukkam junction till Nelpettai junction on East Veli Street.

“This arrangement will take care of the major flow of traffic that cuts through the busiest roundabout in the city,” a Highways Department engineer said.

However, with the work on the second arm from Goripalayam junction towards Palam Station Road in Sellur yet to be completed, the traffic arrangement for vehicles coming from Sellur and Yanaikkal will continue to go via F.F. Road and OCPM School Road to reach Tamukkam Ground.

Meanwhile, city buses and other vehicles that will use the service road to reach Goripalayam junction from Tamukkam junction will take the newly-formed ramp to climb up A.V. Bridge to reach Nelpettai.

The engineers have come up with small traffic arrangement on both sides of the two bridges — A.V. Bridge and the new bridge — across Vaigai River, for smoother flow of traffic to avoid congestion at Nelpettai junction as vehicles will simultaneously move on the parallel bridges.

Hence, vehicles that use the ramp (of A.V. Bridge) and proceed towards Nelpettai can go straight on A.V. Bridge and after crossing it can take only left turn towards Nelpettai. No right turn will be allowed near Anna statue.
