
Coal smuggling case: TMC MP Abhishek Banerjee did not cooperate during ED questioning, say sources

TMC MP Abhishek Banerjee was questioned for over eight hours by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Monday. ED sources told India Today that the TMC leader did not cooperate with the central probe agency.
Trinamool Congress MP Abhishek Banerjee did not cooperate with the Enforcement Directorate (ED) during the over eight-hour-long questioning on Monday in connection with an alleged coal smuggling case, sources told India Today. Abhishek Banerjee, who is the nephew of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, was asked specifically about the alleged unaccounted money which was received by two firms associated to his family members.
A prominent seer, Pranavananda Swamiji, alleged that mutts backing Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar to take over the top post were denied any allocation in the state budget presented by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. He reiterated his support for Shivakumar to take over as the chief minister.

According to the police, 19-year-old Sachin Dharmendrabhai Chaudhary, who works as a labourer, had borrowed the money before expressing his inability to repay it immediately, police said. He was allegedly threatened with his life over the delay in repayment. Fearing for his life, Sachin immediately alerted the police.
