Chief Minister Siddaramaiah will inaugurate the 371-bed branch of Sri Jayadeva Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences and Research in Kalaburagi on Sunday, said Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Minister and Kalaburagi in-charge Priyank Kharge.
Addressing a media conference along with Medical Education Minister Shran Prakash Patil at the new building of the hospital in Kalaburagi on Friday, Mr. Priyank said that the Kalaburagi branch of the Jayadeva Hospital had served around 15 lakh people after it was started in 2016.
“The opening of the branch in 2016 was a major step that the Congress government had taken to expand health facilities in the region. When Kalyana Karnataka region celebrates 10 years of its special status, which is accorded to it under Article 371(J) of the Constitution, we have now built a new building with 371-bed capacity for the branch,” Mr. Priyank said.
Mr. Priyank and Mr. Patil took stock of the preparations for the inaugural event and held discussions with Deputy Commissioner Fouzia Taranum and Police Commissioner S.D. Sharanappa.
Responding to the allegations of BJP leaders R. Ashok and C.N. Ashwath Narayan that the maternal deaths were State-sponsored murders, Mr. Priyank hit back stating that the deaths reported during the COVID-19 pandemic owing to negligence and money-making mindset of the then BJP government were indeed State-sponsored murders.
When asked about BJP leader C.T. Ravi’s comments on Minister Laxmi Hebbalkar in the Legislative Council, Mr. Priyank said: “Mr. Ravi’s comments reflect the BJP’s mindset. Making offensive, aggressive, and insulting comments against women is not new in the BJP,” he said.
