Chennai is gearing up to experience the worst of the summer season with the Regional Meteorological Centre (MeT) predicting maximum temperatures to reach 38 degrees Celsius for the next few days. The weather agency has also forecast light rainfall with thunderstorms in some areas.
The city bloggers have predicted that the mercury is likely to touch 40 degrees Celsius before 'Kathiri veyil', or the hottest month, ends this week. The seven-day MeT forecast reveals that the maximum and minimum temperatures are expected to hover around 38 degrees Celsius and 29 degrees Celsius, respectively.

The city is likely to experience light rainfall with partly cloudy conditions with thunderstorms for the next five days, following which clear skies have been predicted.
On Monday, Nungambakkam and Meenambakkam stations registered 39.2 degrees Celsius and 40.1 degrees Celsius, respectively. As the temperatures rose, humidity dropped to 76 per cent and 57 per cent at both the stations, making the weather hot and dry.

A prominent seer, Pranavananda Swamiji, alleged that mutts backing Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar to take over the top post were denied any allocation in the state budget presented by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. He was allegedly threatened with his life over the delay in repayment. Fearing for his life, Sachin immediately alerted the police.
