Centre moves SC for transfer of all petitions challenging IT Rules 2021 to Apex court

The Centre has filed a plea before the Supreme Court, urging that all petitions challenging the Information Technology Rules 2021 in various high courts be transferred to the Apex court.

The Central government has moved the Supreme Court seeking the transfer of all petitions challenging the Information Technology Rules 2021. Many media houses and social media intermediaries have filed petitions in various high courts challenging the rules. Such petitions have been filed in the Delhi, Bombay, Madras and Kerala high courts. The high courts have even issued notices to the Centre in many cases and are set to hear the petitions challenging the Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021.
