
Centre cracks down on Android scam; blocks fraud app, Telegram channels, warns users

The Centre cracked down on the Wingo Android scam, blocking its Telegram channels and YouTube videos after probes by the Home Ministry found the app was luring users with quick-money promises while secretly misusing their phones and data.
The government has launched a major crackdown on an organised cyber fraud network operating through an Android application named Wingo, blocking its digital infrastructure and associated online channels after it was found to be sending fraudulent SMS messages from users’ phones without their knowledge.
Acting on multiple complaints, the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C) under the Union Home Ministry took swift action to dismantle the scam ecosystem. Officials said the app was being used to lure users with promises of quick money while covertly misusing their devices and data.

As per the Bill, those involved in unlawful conversions on the pretext of marriage will be punished with imprisonment of seven years and shall also be liable for a fine of Rs 1 lakh. Violations in respect of a minor, a person of unsound mind, a woman or a person belonging to the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe will be punished with imprisonment of seven years and a fine of Rs 5 lakh.
