CBSE Class 12 maths paper moderate but lengthy, long answers toughest
India Today
The CBSE Class 12 Mathematics exam 2026 ranged from moderate to moderately difficult, according to teachers. The paper covered most key topics and included several previous years' questions. However, its length and calculation-heavy nature meant students had to manage time carefully to complete the paper comfortably.
The CBSE Class 12 Mathematics board exam, held on February 9, appears to have been moderate in difficulty, though several teachers said the paper felt lengthy because of calculation-heavy questions and long MCQs. Overall, the exam closely followed the CBSE pattern and tested conceptual understanding across major topics.
Nishant Kumar Singh, Subject Matter Expert at Seth MR Jaipuria Schools, said the question paper was structured clearly and aligned with the syllabus.
“The Grade 12 Mathematics question paper was well-structured and aligned with the prescribed syllabus and examination pattern. The paper followed a balanced format with sections ranging from objective questions to case-study based problems, allowing students to demonstrate conceptual understanding as well as analytical skills.”
He explained that the MCQ section mainly tested conceptual clarity and logical reasoning, while longer questions required students to combine multiple concepts from topics such as matrices, probability, vectors and three-dimensional geometry.
The case-study questions also tested application skills. “The case study–based questions in Section E were a positive inclusion as they connected mathematical ideas with real-life situations.”
Nilutpal Bora, PGT Mathematics at Modern English School in Guwahati, said the paper matched what students had prepared for.
