Well, a video of a few caterpillars gathered in a cluster has gone crazy viral on social media and it will really make you wonder. In the clip, the caterpillars form a menacing shape on a tree trunk and the reason is just too interesting to miss.
In the now-viral video, the caterpillars formed a large cluster on a tree trunk. Moreover, whenever the camera person made any sort of noise near them, they bounced up almost together. According to the caption of the post, caterpillars use this as their defence mechanism. Social clusters like these are sensitive to sound and often react to vibration around them. They also do this so that their appearance resembles a bigger animal on the move to ward off their predators.
