Cash-for-jobs row: AIADMK MP's contempt notice against Tamil Nadu vigilance body
India Today
AIADMK MP Inbadurai has approached the Madras High Court seeking permission to file a contempt petition against the Tamil Nadu Vigilance and Anti-Corruption wing for allegedly failing to act against DMK Minister KN Nehru in the cash-for-jobs scam. The move comes amid poll-bound Tamil Nadu, a day after he warned of contempt action.
AIADMK MP Inbadurai has approached the Madras High Court seeking permission to file a contempt petition against the Tamil Nadu Vigilance and Anti-Corruption wing (DVAC) for failing to register a case against DMK Minister KN Nehru in the alleged cash-for-jobs scam despite clear instruction from the bench.
This move in poll-bound Tamil Nadu comes a day after the Rajya Sabha MP formally warned the vigilance agency that a contempt case would be filed if it failed to act on the High Court’s directive to initiate proceedings against the DMK minister in the cash-for-jobs scam.
“Yesterday, I served notice to DVAC. Today, we mentioned the matter before the Chief Justice, who has granted permission to file the contempt petition. Officers of Tamil Nadu are adamant about not implementing court orders,” Inbadurai told India Today TV on Thursday.
Counsel for the AIADMK mentioned the matter before the Chief Justice, seeking permission to file a contempt petition over the agency's alleged non-compliance with the February 20 order.
The Chief Justice asked the counsel to return after getting the contempt plea formally numbered, indicating that the court would consider it once the procedural requirements were completed.
On Thursday, the Madras High Court granted Inbadurai permission to move a contempt petition against the Vigilance body for non-compliance with its earlier direction to register an FIR against the minister.

India on Monday said it has not held bilateral talks with the United States on deploying naval vessels to secure merchant shipping in the Strait of Hormuz. The clarification came after US President Donald Trump urged countries to send warships to keep the strategic waterway open amid tensions with Iran.
