Calgary defence lawyer charged with criminal harassment against police officer
CBC
The Alberta RCMP have charged a Calgary criminal defence lawyer with criminal harassment after he allegedly threatened a police officer who had previously led an investigation into him.
According to the RCMP, it all started when the accused, 46-year-old Jordan Randall Bonner, became the subject of an investigation by the Calgary Police Service (CPS).
RCMP would not say what the initial investigation was about, and CPS deferred CBC's inquiries back to the RCMP.
“Following that investigation, the accused was upset with CPS and the lead investigator, and he turned to defamatory, anti-law enforcement online content,” said Gina Slaney, a public information officer with the Alberta RCMP.
“He continued to post online content, which evolved into threats and stalking behaviours against the lead investigator.”
Last November, CPS asked the RCMP to step in. Police requested that the Mounties initiate a criminal harassment and intimidation investigation into Bonner.
The Southern Alberta RCMP General Investigation Section investigated the matter for a year.
On Nov. 19, 2025, RCMP arrested Bonner and charged him with criminal harassment.
Slaney said he was taken into custody for a “brief period of time” and has since been released under the following conditions: he doesn’t contact the victim or his family, and he doesn’t make any social media posts about them.
The accused is due at the Alberta Court of Justice in Airdrie on Jan. 8.
Bonner did not respond to CBC’s requests for comment.
According to his website, Bonner is a Calgary-based trial lawyer who has defended “hundreds” of criminal cases over his career.
