The N.W.T. Coroner Service has identified the Nunavut man who died in RCMP custody in Yellowknife last Thursday.
George Angottitauruq, 35, of Gjoa Haven was found unresponsive in police custody last week, a news release from the office of the N.W.T. chief coroner said Monday.
Angottitauruq was taken to Stanton Territorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
His body has been flown to Edmonton where an autopsy will be done.
Police in Yellowknife say Angottitauruq was arrested at the Explorer Hotel on Thursday just before 7 a.m. and he died in custody about three hours later.
