Terming Karnataka Budget 2026-27 as the one that does not provide any impetus to coastal Karnataka development, the Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) on Friday said the Budget has completely ignored the government healthcare sector in Dakshina Kannada district.
In a statement here, DYFI Dakshina Kannada District Committee Secretary Santosh Bajal said the Budget has completely ignored the demand for a government medical college in the district. Though approval was given for establishing a 300-bed hospital for the proposed medical college at Puttur, not a single rupee was earmarked for the project.
Mr. Bajal noted that progressive organisations had conducted a strong movement demanding opening of centres of Kidwai Memorial Institute of Oncology and Jayadeva Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences in the district. Even after District in-charge Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao drew the attention of the Chief Minister in this regard, the Budget remained silent, he said, alleging the government has completely surrendered to the private medical mafia.
The DYFI said the Budget was silent on job creation for the youth in industries, and there were no policies to give priority to local youth in existing industries. The complete abandonment of the previously proposed policies to provide reservation for Kannadigas in private sector has disappointed the youth.
Mr. Bajal also regretted absence of any specific projects for the district in the Budget. “It is an anti-development and anti-youth budget with no plans to promote tourism, establish eco-friendly industries, or create jobs for the youth in industries,” he said.
