Brown sugar worth over Rs 3 crore seized in Odisha’s Puri, 3 arrested

The Puri Police, on Saturday, seized around 3 kg of brown sugar worth around Rs 3 crore.
Around 3 kg of brown sugar worth around Rs 3 crore was seized during a raid at Mangalaghat Chhaka in Puri district by a team of Baselisahi Police on Saturday.
As many as three persons, including the Kingpin Susanta Pattanaik, were arrested. The other two accused are Raj Kishore Sahoo alias Raju, 24, and Manas Sahoo alias Guntha, 27.
A case has been registered under section 21(c) 29 of the NDPS Act, 1985 against all the three accused.

The police also recovered Rs 20,000 cash and four mobile phones, a currency counting machine and a car from the possession of accused persons.
“Three teams have been formed for more investigation into the case. Each team will be headed by a DSP-rank police official,” said Puri SP Kanwar Vishal Singh.
Talking to India Today, SP Singh said, “Our efforts to check the drug activity in the city will continue. Puri Police are prepared to deal with the drug racket in a stringent way. We are in the process of breaking the financial backbone of the groups involved in drug-related crimes”.
