BJP's Saurav Joshi wins Chandigarh Mayor election
The Bharatiya Janata Party's Saurav Joshi on Thursday won the Chandigarh mayoral election after securing a clear majority in the municipal corporation vote.
Voting was conducted under the supervision of presiding officer Ramneek Singh Bedi, who issued standard operating procedures for the process, including voting by show of hands. Councillors cast their votes with verbal announcements and signatures recorded after each vote.
In the final tally, the BJP secured 18 votes. The Aam Aadmi Party got 11, while the Congress candidate Gurpreet Singh Gabbi received seven votes, including the support of six councillors and one Member of Parliament.
The presiding officer formally announced the result, declaring Saurav Joshi as the new Mayor of Chandigarh.

As per the Bill, those involved in unlawful conversions on the pretext of marriage will be punished with imprisonment of seven years and shall also be liable for a fine of Rs 1 lakh. Violations in respect of a minor, a person of unsound mind, a woman or a person belonging to the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe will be punished with imprisonment of seven years and a fine of Rs 5 lakh.
