BJP running Tughlaqi regime but can't stop TMC, says Mamata Banerjee

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday said that the BJP government is running a Tuglaqi government. However, they can not stop the TMC.

Amid a row over irregularities in staff selection commission or Staff Selection Commission (SSC) appointments, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday slammed the BJP-led central government and accused it of running a 'Tughlaqi' regime [referring to the 14th-century Muslim ruler of Delhi, Muhammad-bin-Tughlaq].

"BJP is running a Tuglaqi government in India with the help of a few agencies. If they [BJP] believe that Tuglaqi governance can stop the TMC, they are wrong. The TMC is extremely powerful," Mamata Banerjee said, while addressing a public meeting in Jhargram.

"They [the BJP] have no shame after losing here. They are concerned about losing the elections in 2024. That is why they are lying about violence here. Where is the violence? Few incidents are possible in such a vast state, but we don't even want that. We take action against the culprit, but people in your state do not get justice," she added.

Banerjee claimed that there were many discrepancies in government recruitment during the erstwhile Left Front regime in the state, details of which she would "reveal soon".

"A lot of things are being said about discrepancies in recruitment. If someone has committed any wrong, then the law will take its own course. But, this vilification campaign should stop. During the Left Regime, jobs were given by writing down names on pieces of paper. I will reveal the irregularities soon," Banerjee was quoted as saying by PTI.

She also warned party workers, saying, "So I'll tell my people, don't do anything that will give people a chance to point fingers at you."
