
BJP leaders Annamalai, Tamilisai booked for attempting to protest without permission

Chennai police book BJP leaders for protesting TASMAC irregularities, leading to arrests and detentions, released later.
The Chennai city police have booked Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders including K. Annamalai, Tamilisai Soundararajan and others for attempting to stage protests against alleged irregularities in TASMAC on Monday (March 17, 2025).
Last week, Tamil Nadu BJP announced a protest outside the TASMAC head office in Egmore Chennai, on Monday, over the alleged ₹1,000 crore financial irregularities at TASMAC.
On Monday morning, Mr. Annamalai was stopped on East Coast Road while he was proceeding to the protest venue and taken into custody. He was detained along with the party cadre at a hall in Akkarai.
Similarly, senior BJP leader and former Telangana Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan was arrested by the city police when she was leaving her house to stage a protest. BJP party MLAs - Vanathi Srinivasan who is the national president of BJP Mahila Morcha and Saraswathi, were arrested by police near the State Secretariat when they protested. Senior BJP leaders H. Raja, Pon Radhakrishnan were also arrested and all were detained in halls until evening. Later they were released.
Police sources said Mr. Annamalai and 1,000 others were booked for unlawful assembly and staging protests without permission.
