Party alleges widespread rigging in Bengal civic elections
, the BJP on Sunday demanded that the civic elections in Asansol and Bidhannagar be cancelled and fresh polling be held.
In a letter to the State Election Commission (SEC), BJP State chief Sukanta Majumdar alleged that while widespread rigging took place during the polls on Saturday, police became a silent spectator.
“We demand the polling in these two civic bodies be cancelled immediately and fresh polls ordered. We are not making such demands for Chandannagar and Siliguri as polling was not reduced to a farce in these two municipal corporations,” he said. In the letter, Mr. Majumdar cited the Calcutta High Court’s directive to the SEC to ensure free and fair polls.
The Opposition Congress demanded that the government open the Gandhi Vatika Museum, depicting Mahatma Gandhi’s legacy and freedom struggle, built at a cost of ₹85 crore in Jaipur’s Central Park last year, during the Congress-led regime in Rajasthan. The museum has not been opened to the public, reportedly because of the administration’s engagements with the State Assembly and Lok Sabha elections.

Pakistan coach Gary Kirsten stated that “not so great decision making” contributed to his side’s defeat to India in the Group-A T20 World Cup clash here on Sunday. The batting unit came apart in the chase, after being well placed at 72 for two.
