BJP condemns Puttur MLA Ashok Kumar Rai for derogatory remarks against Chalavadi Narayana Swamy and files a police complaint.
Condemning Ashok Kumar Rai, Congress MLA of Puttur, for using a derogatory word against Chalavadi Narayana Swamy, Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Council, on February 15, the BJP said here on February 16 that it has filed a police complaint against Mr. Rai in Puttur.
Addressing press persons, Satish Kumpala, president, Dakshina Kannada unit of the BJP, said that the MLA should not have called Mr. Swamy, a senior political leader, such a word.
“It does not go well with the stature of an MLA,” Mr. Kumpala, a former vice-president of Dakshina Kannada Zilla Panchayat, said.
He said politicians of the coastal belt do not subscribe to a culture of using demeaning and derogatory words against anybody.
Mr. Kumpala alleged that Mr. Rai is acting as if previous MLAs of Puttur, irrespective of party, did nothing for the development of Puttur constituency. Puttur has produced political leaders such as D.V. Sadananda Gowda, former Chief Minister and former Union Minister, and Vinay Kumar Sorake, former Karnataka Minister and former MP.
