
BIS holds ‘Manak Manthan’ on furniture standards in Bengaluru

BIS's 'Manak Manthan' in Bengaluru promotes furniture standards awareness through stakeholder discussions on quality and safety specifications.
The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), Bengaluru branch office, organised ‘Manak Manthan’, a technical discussion on furniture standards, on February 10 at its premises in the Peenya Industrial Area on Tumakuru Road.
16 stakeholders, including industry representatives, licencees, consumers and academicians participated in the discussions, which focused on IS 17633:2022 (Tables and Desks – Specification) and IS 17634:2022 (Storage Units – Specification), and are crucial for ensuring quality, safety, durability and performance of furniture used in institutional, commercial, official and household settings.
Addressing the gathering, Joint Director Premalata Sinha underlined the importance of stakeholder engagement and described Manak Manthan as an effective platform to promote awareness on standards, quality and conformity assessment.
Assistant Director Pradip Chauhan detailed the scope, technical requirements, performance criteria and testing provisions of the relevant Indian standards.
