Bhumi Pednekar 'laughed and burst into tears' when she first read the script of Badhaai Do. Interview

In an exclusive interview with IndiaToday.in, Bhumi Pednekar revealed her first reaction to the script of Badhaai Do with Rajkummar Rao. The actress said she laughed and suddenly burst into tears after hearing the story.

A month after its successful stint in theatres, Bhumi Pednekar and Rajkummar Rao's Badhaai Do premiered on Netflix on March 10. The film received good response from the audiences who watched the film in theatres and on the OTT giant. Considering the same, Bhumi Pednekar is overwhelmed. Apart from talking about the film's success, Bhumi shared her first reaction to the film's script.

In an exclusive interview with IndiaToday.in, Bhumi Pednekar opened up about Badhaai Do's success. She said, "I am full of gratitude. There was a tremendous amount of confidence that we had in the script and it gratifies me that the audiences have loved the film so much. The film had a theatrical release and with what's happening now on OTT, the response has just been phenomenal. I am being showered with tremendous amount of love."

As she continued to chat with us, Bhumi revealed her first reaction to Badhaai Do's script was exactly the way the audiences have been reacting to the film. "I laughed and then suddenly I burst into tears and it was just a mix of emotions. I was amazed how the politics of the film was so correct. How the representation of the queer community was so sensitively done. What I loved about the film is that these two characters lived. There's nothing phenomenal or extraordinary that they do. They are flawed, they are grey, they have courage and they are as human as they are and that's what worked for Badhaai Do. I feel that is what connected with the audiences. My initial reaction when I read the script was exactly the way audiences are reacting to the film," said Bhumi.

Before concluding the conversation, Bhumi said that she had hoped that the film would do wonders upon its release. "I hoped so. It is one of those scripts that when I read and heard the narration, I was overwhelmed. The film has shaped up way better than the script. We did hope (the film would do well). There was a gut feeling and instinct that this was going to be a very special film," she said and signed off.
