A 16-year-old girl was rescued from a trafficker at Bengaluru’s Kempegowda International airport. She had run away from home, and the accused, Nagesh, allegedly sexually assaulted her under the pretext of getting her a job in Delhi.
A 35-year-old travel agent from Bengaluru was arrested on Wednesday, February 9, at Kempegowda International Airport, for trafficking and sexually assaulting a 16-year-old girl. M Nagesh, the accused, was allegedly taking her to Delhi under the pretext of getting her a job.
The minor girl had run away from her home in Kolar. She had come to Bengaluru on Tuesday and was looking for a job. Nagesh told her he could help her get jobs in other cities.
He allegedly took her to a hotel in Devanahalli and sexually assaulted her, which had left her disturbed. The next morning, Nagesh booked two tickets to Delhi and took her to the airport.
At the airport, Central Industrial Security Force officers noticed that the girl with Nagesh was disturbed and he was trying to console her in the boarding lounge.
Upon questioning the girl, the officers discovered that she was being trafficked. The girl was reunited with her family, while Nagesh was handed over to the police. He was booked under Section 370 (trafficking) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
A police officer said, as quoted by The Times of India, “We are probing whether he really knew someone in Delhi or was just bluffing. We are checking his record and contacts to ascertain if he is a professional trafficker.”
